The Sonardyne Ranger 2 Lodestar GyroUSBL is an ideal instrument for precise underwater tracking and positioning of assets such as ROVs, suction piles and scientific measurement equipment. The combination of a high-performance USBL transceiver and a Lodestar attitude and heading reference system (AHRS)/inertial navigation system (INS) in a fixed configuration allows for quick deployment without the need for calibration—enabling potential time and cost savings.
The GyroUSBL, due to its unique construction, enables highly precise and accurate positioning by eliminating many typical sources of error in USBL applications, including lever arm offsets, pole bending and ship flexing. The instrument delivers precision better than .3% of slant range, and with a one-time calibration can improve accuracy to less than .1% of slant range, depending on array type. The GyroUSBL is designed for short-term, temporary installations on vessels using through-hull or over-the-side poles, and can also be installed permanently on flexible stem tubes.
