The Sea-Bird SBE 43 Dissolved Oxygen Sensor is an individually-calibrated and high-accuracy instrument that is used to assist in critical hypoxia and ocean stoichiometric oxygen chemistry research on a variety of platforms, both profiling and moored. Designed to be used in a CTD’s pumped flow path, the SBE 43 provides optimal correlation with CTD measurements, and allows for the elapsed time between the CTD and associated measurement to be easily quantified and corrected in post-processing. The sensor’s design and material composition is intended to reduce in-situ algal growth, and avoid exposure to the external environment in order to maintain sample accuracy.
The SBE 43 is operable to depths of 600 or 7000 m, dependent upon whether plastic or titanium housing is chosen, respectively. The sensor can be integrated with any Sea-Bird CTD that accepts 0-5 volt auxiliary sensor input, and can be configured with a number of options to suit the desired response speed or long-term stability requirements.
