Aquation’s Shutter Fluorometer is a PAM fluorometer for underwater measurements of photosynthesis. Rated to 50 m depth, it operates up to three (or more) fluorescence sensors with the unique ability to automatically dark acclimate samples. Coupled with a far-red light source to deactivate PSII, dark acclimation enables correct in situ determination of non-photochemical quenching parameters throughout the day. The inbuilt planar PAR sensor is useful for Electron Transport Rate calculations.
The Shutter Fluorometer has been used from the Red Sea to the Antarctic, and measures corals, macroalgae, benthic microalgae and aquatic plants such as seagrasses. With suitable validation studies, the Shutter Fluorometer can be used to generate estimates of primary productivity in nearshore marine and estuarine systems.
